Train Your Brain
Are you looking to:
- Take control of your life
- Change habits
- Feel like change is possible
- Be more effective
Now, here's an idea: if our brain can be programmed so easily that we don't even realise it's happening (like when we suddenly realise we can now remember a friend's phone number off the top of our head), then we must be able to tweak that programming to suit us, don't you think?
This is the idea that underpins NLP: that we are 'at cause': we are in control of our brain and therefore how we think and feel. By understanding how our brain works and how we can make changes, we can discover how to create happy lives for ourselves. Knowing that the power is within you allows you to choose.
Viktor Frankle, known for his writings about his experience in a Nazi concentration camp, developed a mental attitude that enabled him to survive this nightmarish experience, and to then establish a life of achievement and abundance after his incarceration ended. In his book Man's Search for Meaning, he says "We who lived in the concentration camps can remember the men who moved through the huts comforting others, giving away their last piece of bread. They may have been few in number, but they offer sufficient proof that everything can be taken from a man but one thing, the last of his freedoms: to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one's own way."
Changing habits, or just taking them away, suddenly seems so attainable, doesn't it? The idea that if I have a pattern of behaviour set up in my brain that I'm not happy with, and that I can change it, is a great feeling. I can decide what kind of habits I want, and ditch the ones not working for me. I might want to stop biting my nails or telling myself negative things when I make a mistake. I might want a habit of feeling good when I wake up in the morning, or praising myself when I've finished a difficult task at work. NLP makes these changes accessible to us quickly and easily.
A key step in creating personal change is clarifying what you want in your life (not what you don't want!). If you think about not wanting a boring job, you will be spending a lot of time focusing on a boring job! Focus on what you want instead. Perhaps a rewarding, fun role that allows you to learn and help others? Great! Focus on that! The style of NLP Coaching ensures you are focusing on positive outcomes.
