Mental attitude

Our mental attitude toward anything we do influences our experience and success of doing it. It is possible to 'reprogram' that attitude to support achievement of your goals. Successful people aren't usually successful due to sheer good luck. Studies of those who do well show they have beliefs about what they can achieve and what's possible ,that propel them towards that. And this applies to all kinds of success, whether it's financial, academic, in sport or at work, or with family and relationships.

If you want to have something in your life someone else has, like a great relationship or job, notice what they say about it, how they act towards their partner, feel about going to work. These are clues about how to achieve that yourself!

We can do this for ourselves, and if it's not so easy, NLP coaching and techniques helps us along. That way, obstacles can be removed and our way made clear to move towards our goals.

Oskar Schindler, who saved many Jews during the Nazi holocaust, could easily have felt it an impossible task to save those people in light of the horrendous conditions. His beliefs and determination made it possible to save over a thousand lives.

How we think about our goals

NLP allows us to create our goals in ways that ensure success. It's important to focus on what you want, how it will look, sound and feel, and how you'll know when you've got it. It's also good to understand how goals fit into the rest of your life, what could prevent you from achieving them, and what steps will ensure you get there.

When it comes to wanting to do something well, how we visualise what we're doing creates our reality. So, let's say my goal is to speak confidently in front of a large group. Now, when I think about what my goal looks and feels like, I might notice that I see that group as being huge and imposing and myself as small and fidgety. This doesn't bode well! I can make some simple changes to this 'representation' at an unconscious level that will transform how I feel about that situation. I can choose to feel relaxed and confident, and even enjoy the experience!
